During the ‘lock-down’ the Team at The Wellness Centre (Castle Quay) has been hard at work to improve our services and the centre as a whole, so that we can even better meet our clients’ needs. Our resident Massage Therapist, April Marques, has completed several complimentary massage courses including Trigger Point Therapy, Oncology Massage, Massage Therapy for the Frozen Shoulder and Massage Therapy for Sciatica. April is keen to share all this new knowledge with her clients both in theory and in practice.

Re-Opening Offer! During the months of June & July we are offering our clients

50% OFF a follow-up treatment or service of choice when they visit us again.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a type of deep tissue manipulation which is usually incorporated into Deep Tissue or Sports Massage. This is how April explains this additional service:

Trigger Points are often described as ‘spasms’ or ‘knots’ that can be felt in muscles. These knots frequently cause pain and sensitivity in the affected area but can also refer pain to other parts of the body, which is a curious but important aspect of Trigger Points. A muscle that is affected by Trigger Points becomes shortened, wider and suffers from reduced efficiency and may cause pressure on local nerves and blood vessels. Most of us have some degree of Trigger Points as muscle overuse and postural strains are common causes.

Legs Sports Massage Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy covers a range of techniques aimed at deactivating these painful knots and can be incorporated into a Deep Tissue or Sport Massage. These treatment sessions are typically more intense than a traditional Swedish Massage as the therapist use deeper gliding movements and ischemic compressions to lengthen the affected muscles. Although the client may experience an initial feeling of discomfort before relief is achieved, the treatment should always be performed within the client’s comfort zone.

Whether the discomfort suffered from Trigger Points is acute (recent) or chronic (long term), the purpose of this therapy is to eliminate pain and to rehabilitate the affected muscles back to full strength and movement. After the treatment, swelling and stiffness is reduced, movement is increased, tension is alleviated, and the local circulation is improved. In some more severe or chronic cases, more than one treatment session may be required.

“Everyone knows that I love to learn new things and to advance my professional knowledge. As such I was really happy when The Wellness Centre (Castle Quay) offered me to attend several different courses whilst not being able to treat clients during the ‘lock-down’. As a Massage Therapist I am pleased to be able to incorporate these additional techniques with my other treatments as I am certain it will be extremely beneficial for my clients. You should not have to live your life in pain, life is to be enjoyed.”                                                                                                                                         –  April Marques
