Jersey Chiropractors: Adrian & Andrea Luckhurst

At first I was blind, but now I can see, all the untrues I came to believe. My pains are now gone, my mind and body set free... and all that it took in the end my friend, was to decide to live my life more 'Chiro-practically'.

I started into Chiropractic as a patient myself when I was just 15 years old. My mother had suffered for years with chronic and recurrent migraine headaches. She had decided to see a Chiropractor to manage her symptoms, whom did so very successfully. One morning I awoke (15 years old) with what I can only describe as the worst headache I have ever experienced in my life. I also had a severe pain in my neck at the time and as such my mother decided to take me to see her Chiropractor that morning. He assessed my condition and determined that  having slept awkwardly that night I had a subluxated vertebra, which was now irritating a nerve in my neck. Using gentle and painless spinal manipulation he quickly restored the normal movement/function in my spine. Literally within 10 minutes my headache was gone....? Needless to say a lasting impression had been made! From that day forward I have received Chiropractic treatment for a whole host of conditions i.e. (headache, whiplash, sports injuries, wellness, etc..). As a result I decided to become a Chiropractor and help as many people experience the same or similar success.

Chiropractic Education

After having looked into a few Chiropractic Colleges in North America, I initially decided to attend Palmer West college in California. I was sent the college's Prospectus, which also included a list of all other colleges in the world. At that time I did not realise that there was a Chiropractic College in the United Kingdom (Anglo European College of Chiropractic (A.E.C.C.)). When I researched this college I soon realised that it was one of the best in the world. It was the only college in the world to offer a 5 year Masters degree program, which had a world leading research department. As I was originally born in England, I naturally decided to apply. I was accepted after having completed a 2 year prerequisite program at University and started as a 'Fresher' in 1993. After five long and hard academic years I graduated and finally joined the ranks within the Chiropractic profession.

At Jersey Chiropractic Centre

We at the Jersey Chiropractic Centre are very pleased to be a part of your present recovery and hope that we may continue to help you, your family, friends, and colleagues now and in the future. As your Chiropractors it is not just our job to get you out of pain… Rather it is our job to remove ‘roadblocks’ to your body’s natural ability to heal itself. Initially it is our goal to ease your symptoms by improving on the function of your affected joints (spinal or extremity). However, and more importantly it is our goal and duty in the long term to try and prevent  unfortunate relapses, which may hinder your overall progress. At our clinic we constantly strive to offer our patients the best in Chiropractic Care. As such in recent years we have significantly  invested in state of the art equipment, have  expanded into new and modern  premises, and are now able to offer even more services than ever before.

We are blessed as Chiropractors by being a  witness to each patients return to health. You can experience the same joy by referring others. Together, we make a great team.

On a Personal Note

Andrea (Dr. F. Luckhurst) and I first met at Chiropractic College (A.E.C.C.), and very quickly we became inseparable. Soon after graduation I was presented with the opportunity to take over as the principle and owner of the 'Jersey Chiropractic Centre'. In 1999 I moved to Jersey, and had to spend 3 long years apart from Andrea while she finished her Chiropractic education and I took over and developed, modernised and progressed the clinic. Andrea finally finished her course and joined me in the practice as my partner. Slowly but surely we fell in love with Jersey, it's beaches, it's restaurants, and it's people. We decided to commit long term to the island, our patients, and their  health needs.

We have two beautiful dogs (Schnauzers) whom are a constant source of entertainment (I highly recommend this breed of dog to ANYONE :))... As a result we love exploring with them and getting lost on several of Jersey's beautiful beaches, cliff paths and forest walks.   We don't have any children (yet) as we both work full-time, and frustratingly have been denied the ability to engage any Associate staff to help ease our workload and offer continuity of care for our patients. But we are working on it...! My main sport is Windsurfing, which is pretty awesome in Jersey when it's blowing a gale... My other sports interests are Boxing, MTN Biking, Squash, and Snow-boarding.

Diet: We (generally) eat  a very healthy diet... Andrea is a GREAT cook..!

The number one rule to a healthy diet, is to eat FRESH FOOD. Any food with the following words in it i.e.(processed, fast, convenient, take away, etc...) is generally not food. A mixture of lean meats, seafood, salads, nuts, grains, vegetables, etc... makes for a healthy heart, mind, and body... simple.

The second rule of a healthy diet is not to OVER EAT. One would think that common sense would prevail, but many people get this one wrong. Too much of a 'good thing', really is a 'bad thing'...

The third rule is to eat REGULARY... Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (not too early, and definitely not too late). Snack and drink frequently throughout the day on 'high energy options' 'i.e. (mixed nuts, dried fruit, fruit juice, water, etc..), not 'low energy options' i.e. (candy, crisps, chocolate, soda pop, coffee, etc..).

Finally, don't stress about it. Have the occasional take away, have that bar of chocolate, or that piece of cake with your name written all over it. Just remember to balance it with exercise, and common sense i.e. (Calories in Vs. Calories out).

Exercise: Normally I like to box, MTN Bike, or go to the gym 2-3 times per week. Unfortunately over the past 1-2 years we have been working too hard (like many people), and as a result my regime has become rather more sporadic. Exercise is so important... Our bodies are designed to move, to work, to live... Without exercise one becomes stressed, less fun, and less healthy. Stressed and unhealthy people have less energy for themselves, for their friends, their family, and their colleagues. I don't want to be 'one of those people', and I don't want our patients to be 'one of those people' either.

Treatment: Who would we be if we 'didn't practice what we preach'. Andrea and I try to treat each other on average 1x/week, and guess what it feels great! We treat each other weekly to counter the mechanical, emotional, chemical, and environmental stresses that we are all subjected to each day and week of our lives. We know that without treatment we become less able as people, and therefore less able as practitioners to help each other, our family, our friends, and of course our patients. If it's good enough for us, then it is good enough for you...!

Adrian & Andrea Asks some important questions of interest to Jersey residents - Chiropractor Jersey Adrian & Andrea Asks...

What's the difference between chiropractic and medicine?
Medical treatment focuses on the disease or the symptom. Chiropractic focuses on the person with the disease or the symptom. Medical treatment usually involves changing blood chemistry. Chiropractic involves restoring nervous system integrity. Medical doctors prescribe medicine. Chiropractors adjust the spine—a common source of nervous system interference.
What's the difference between a "good" drug and a "bad" drug?
As a chiropractor, I see the use of many drugs (legal or illegal) as merely symptom treating. Worse, virtually every drug produces unwanted effects. The effects of chiropractic are largely positive effects. If you're a Jersey parent, consider carefully before giving your child a cough medication, cold remedy or pain reliever so this sort of question doesn't arise in the first place.
